Barranco Street Food by Tuk-Tuk: 13 Tastings

About this experience

This is a newer tour with just 6 reviews, all of them 5 stars, and the only one here with no alcohol. The price covers 13 Peruvian tastings, more than 10 seasonal fruit tastings, a selection of desserts, drinks and soups, bottled water, a tuk-tuk ride and a certified tourism guide with culinary training. The operator says the tastings add up to more than a hearty lunch and recommends only a light snack beforehand. You can cancel free up to 24 hours before.

You meet at the Biblioteca Municipal de Barranco on the Parque Municipal and ride by tuk-tuk to an indoor market. Guests describe a community market where everyone seems to know everyone, reached by a mototaxi that is not allowed in the tourist area, which tells you how local it is. The rest is a guided walk through the stalls: street-food classics, fish, meat, soup, fruit and desserts. The operator changes the menu with the seasons, and you leave with a list of places to eat for the rest of your stay.

The tour is not vegetarian-friendly, and the operator says so plainly. Alcohol is neither served nor allowed. The tuk-tuk has no mobility restrictions, guides wait 10 minutes at most, and hotel pickup and tips are not included. Guests name Arturo and Yaritza as guides.

★★★★★

We spent a wonderful afternoon in the company of Arturo and Milagros (Millie) who gave us a wonderful insight into Peruvian food culture. We took a short Tuk-tuk ride to a local market and spent 3 hours sampling many different dishes, fish, meat, soup, fruit etc. [...] Everything we ate was truly local and really delicious. This market is a local community market where everyone appeared to know everyone. [...]

Yaritza was an excellent guide. We learned so much about Peru along with the tasting of many tasty dishes. Peru has many unique fruits that are absolutely delicious. The tour takes place at a local market. We arrived at the market by local tuk tuk- not allowed in the tourist area. Highly recommend!
